My grandmother Soledad passed when I was only 14 years old and she was the sweetest and most loving abuelita that any girl could have. The other day I was re-organizing my jewelry box (I do this a lot, I’m an organizing clean junkie) and I stumbled upon these lovely gold earrings. They were given to me by my grandmother when I was only a baby and my mom had complained to her that the earrings she had bought for me were irritating my skin and so of course my grandmother sent her these.

I have many loving memories of her. Like the time she danced with me on her birthday, how she always made me a special hot chocolate so I didn’t feel left out while the adults had coffee and the time she spent in our home for a month when my mom was very sick. However, this is the only heirloom I have of hers and so it’s very special to me and I still keep it in the same box she delivered them in tucked securely in the back of my jewelry box.

I wanted to photograph them to include them in a photo book/journal I plan to make in the near future of her because I want to document her life and story. She is still very loved.
