A recent get together with former co-workers reminded me of all the fun, loving and silly nicknames people have given me over the years. I thought it would make for a fun post, so here we go starting from early childhood.

Flaquita/Flaca

Given by my parents, it’s just a loving way of saying skinny girl in Spanish and to this day they on occasion still call me this.

Nancy Drew

Assigned by Kris early on in our relationship, I don’t have a middle name and since I’m a bookworm and he thought it sounded cool he calls me that from time to time.

Nancy Marie

Another one assigned by Kris. Again, he just thought it made for a good middle name and it sounds great too.

Mamalita

Also by Kris, this has a wonderful story behind it and coincides with my mamalita sessions (for another post soon). It’s just a sweet nickname that came from a love story that we were told and as much as I resisted it, I kind have grown to love it now.

Twin

My bff Annie and I always dressed alike and had super fun curly hair and so we referred to one another as our twin. Yes, we were in high school… doesn’t everyone do this?

Team Leader

The owners of this one are the former fabulous team that I supervised long ago at my first serious job at a real estate company. That would be Trude and the Glowins, it specifically came about from a series of jokes from George Lopez’s comedy. “Why you crying? ”

Fancy Nancy

Another one by Trude and the Glowins. In reference to me dolling up a dinner, event or my wardrobe. Plus, it rhymes so why not, right?

Noogie

Socorro, my other awesome BFF is the proud owner of this one. It goes back to a night out when we met someone that had a gold tooth that we nicknamed “noogie”. Somehow we thought it was so funny and let me tell you it’s a really funny story (we’re the only ones who think so, but that’s okay) that we call each other this funny nickname and it always brings burst of laughter into our little world.

Noodles

I’m not sure who exactly gave this one to me, but it was from my former AMC group that I worked with back a few years. We were an awesome group and constantly made our days breeze by quicker by cracking jokes and laughing at one another. I think it might have been Michael or Dolores? Oh and the reference to this one is of my fabulous, wild and unpredictable curly hair.

Francesa

Another one assigned by my former AMC co-workers, it was in reference to someone saying that I had Italian hair. Also not sure of the sole owner of this one, it was a big group, give me a break.

Nancita

Various people have called me this, Socorro, extended family and cousins. Just another Spanish way of saying someone’s name in a sweet and loving way.

Nance

Lot’s of people have called me or call me this sometimes, I guess no reference and just a quick way to say my name?

Although I am thankful and love my real name (named by my dad after Nancy Reagan, my dad was such a romantic) I am thankful for these lovely nicknames, even the silly ones. It makes me realize how loved I am and I hope the list keeps on growing. So what’s in a nickname and what are your nicknames?

Thanks again for all the support on my blog and site, I can’t tell you how grateful I feel from all the lovely notes I keep getting in my inbox since the day of the launch.
